What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.
What to Expect?
Alpha runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes —you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally 90 minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?
Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.
Here's Your Invitation
Alpha is for anyone who wants to get the most out of their life.
Alpha explores the Christian faith in an informal and friendly way that has helped countless people grow closer to God. Whether you have just started your journey of faith or have been on the road for some time, Alpha is a great way to learn alongside others like you.
“My faith was impacted by my interaction with others. Connections were made and so a sense of belonging was created. Alpha enabled me to impact others in a positive way about my faith. In turn I am influenced by others’ faith. As a result of attending Alpha I feel closer to my parish family.”
“As a self-proclaimed Agnostic I attended Alpha only because it was a requirement of my job at Church. I went in believing this would be the biggest waste of my time and that no one was going to make me ‘see the light’.
“The first session was a bit uncomfortable as I was not used to sharing my feelings with others, but I didn’t find the night to be as bad as I thought. Leading up to the retreat I found myself wanting to attend those Thursday night sessions and share in the faith others seemed to find so easily.
“The retreat was all about letting the Holy Spirit into our lives. It was eye opening for me. I found myself connecting with the others in the room and listening to their stories and wanting the Holy Spirit to fill me as it was filling them.
“Since that day my faith has grown stronger and I find myself wanting to participate in more church activities and enjoying Mass more. Alpha is a program that I believe everyone should attend.
“Alpha is not for a specific religion it encompasses all the Christian faiths and the differing viewpoints during discussion times can be truly amazing. I’d like to say I had an “Aha moment” and my faith has been restored fully, but it hasn’t. Instead Alpha has started me on a path back to the Church I grew up in and restored that bit of faith I lost so long ago. I intend to join in the next session as well. I will continue my journey and know that where I end up, will be God’s will and Alpha will have been a big part of that.”
